Backpacking trips require backpackers to travel light, as backpacking involves hiking and camping. As an amalgam of these two popular outdoor activities, it is quite understandable why backpackers need to travel light for a backpacking excursion.

To remedy this issue with backpacking, ultralight backpacking gear types are readily available for backpackers to choose from. Light, durable and fully functional, these ultralight backpacking gear types truly live up to their namesakes, making a backpacking adventure much more fun for backpackers, who wouldn’t even realize they carry with them a load of essential items needed to survive the outdoors. Most ultralight backpacking gear systems include common household items, which greatly serve ideal functions during a backpacking excursion.

Here are three of the most common ultralight backpacking gear types, which include specialized gear, as well as some household items which come in quite handy outdoors.

Garbage Bags

Garbage bags, versatile as they are, could be employed for various functions as ultralight backpacking gear. Garbage bags could be used as a backpack cover, as tarps, as a rain poncho, as a sack separating wet from dry clothing, as a ground cloth for tents, as an ash bucket, as a bandage and as a garbage bag.

With garbage bags being light items, as well as their multifunctional nature, it really isn’t surprising to know that they are included in most ultralight backpacking gear systems.

LED Flashlights

Over the years, LED flashlights are quickly replacing regular battery powered flashlights, as they are lighter, in terms of weight, and are significantly brighter, considering their size and power consumption.

Because of their size, LED flashlights could be commonly found integrated into certain ultralight backpacking gear types like survival knives and cigarette lighters, which could stand as backup lights for dedicated LED flashlights.

As a form of portable illumination, LED Flashlights ideally fit the bill defining ultralight backpacking gear types.
Ultralight Backpacks

When it comes to backpacking, using an ultralight backpack yields beneficial results, considering that ones backpack would weigh more once packed with other backpacking gear.

Ultralight backpacks are known for their lightness and durability, making them ideal as ultralight backpacking gear types. Some come with back suspension systems, while others are padded for comfort and fit. These elements add to the weight of the backpack alone, and most ultralight backpacks acknowledge this weight issue by making an ultralight backpacks suspension and padding light as they could possibly be.

The three abovementioned items are among the most commonly known ultralight backpacking gear types. There are more out there, naturally, waiting to be picked off their respective display racks.

All in all, bringing these three along as ultralight backpacking gear would pose to be a decision one wouldn’t regret once on a backpacking trail.

Different occasions, activities, sports, events, and trips, need specific types of bags and luggage. There are fashionable pouches and tote bags for casual occasions or parties, big colorful and flowery bags for beach outings, long and huge athletic and gym bags for certain sports, school bags, suitcases for specialized professionals, trolleys and strollers for travelers, backpacking backpacks for outdoor or camping activities, and more.

Each bag type serves a specific purpose that’s why they are used for these particular occasions and activities. They are made of different materials and various designs to suit a particular activity. Just take for example backpacking backpacks, it may come in various models, types, and sizes, but all of these backpacking backpacks must at least meet some specific criteria. These are specialized bags because the type of activity calls for it. Most of the backpacking backpacks available in the market these days are made of lightweight materials since backpacking requires much hiking so the bags should not anymore add weight to the gear, equipment, and items that are packed in it. In selecting backpacking backpacks, one must remember these things, utility, material used, durability, size, weight, and convenience. Depending on how much you’ll be carrying in your trip, backpacking backpacks come in different shapes and sizes, from the smaller and lighter ones at 35 liters to the medium-sized at 50 liters to the bigger ones at 70 liters. Usually if a backpacker goes on a day-hike, bringing only the bare essentials, then he can opt the small ones, and if he needs some more space especially for souvenir-taking on day trip or an overnight one, staying in a hostel or some camp house, then the medium-sized would be better. However, if he’s on a backpacking camping in the woods for a few days with some camping equipments and tents, then he’s got to have the bigger-sized backpacking backpacks to have everything he needs, but, this will surely weigh more heavily than the other types since it’s bigger and there are more things and gears inside it.

Backpacking backpacks are even specialized based on the level of one’s backpacking skill and purpose. Military backpackers use “rucksacks”, while other professional backpackers use their own preferred backpacking backpacks. It is truly amazing to know how one simple backpacking backpack can go a long way, and can even pack ones shelter, food, water, and clothes for his survival. The success of backpackers backpacking trips hugely depend on their backpacking backpacks.

As backpacking is the amalgam between hiking and camping, weight matters a lot, as well as overall functionality and usefulness once outdoors.

Making sure ones wilderness backpacking trip would be one filled with fun and adventure begins with planning out where and what to bring during the trip. With wilderness backpacking, a backpacker should only bring what one would potentially need, as unnecessary weight isn’t needed, nor wanted, in a wilderness backpacking excursion.

Making sure ones gear is up to standards is also quite essential, as once out in the outdoors, little options are available for backpackers, should the equipment failure arise.

Aside from necessary clothing, here are some of the essential items a wilderness backpacking trip would demand from a backpacker.

Backpacking Tent

Tents are there for shelter purposes. The type of backpacking tent brought during a wilderness backpacking trip is totally up to the backpacker, who has the last say with regards what tent type to bring.

Among the most popular type of backpacking tents used in wilderness backpacking adventures would be reinforced dome tents. They are easy to pitch up, as well as pitch down, and are quite sturdy enough to withstand rough weather, as well as light to carry around during the hiking phase of a wilderness backpacking excursion.

Tents are for shelter purposes, and are quite essential in a wilderness backpacking trip.

Sleeping Bags

As tents are for shelter, sleeping bags are for sleeping. Keeping backpackers warm and comfortable during cold nights, sleeping bags are quite essential backpacking items as they aid backpackers sleep, recharging their bodies from a long hiking excursion.

Mummy type sleeping bags rank as the most popular type of sleeping bags, as they keep backpackers warm.

The Backpack

Ones backpack matters in a wilderness backpacking excursion. Ideally, they should be light enough, as well as durable enough to withstand rips and damp conditions, keeping the packs contents dry during rain.

All in all, the right backpack, also keeps ones backpacking gear organized, as well as maintains a level of comfort for backpackers during a wilderness backpacking excursion.

Backpacking Gear Checklist

Having mentioned three essential backpacking gear types, one shouldn’t forget about ones backpacking gear checklist. As each wilderness backpacking trip differs from another, one should compliment the gear with the type of adventure one would be getting himself/herself into.

Having a backpacking gear checklist would mean a backpackers awareness of what he/she would be facing out in the field, thus its essential value to a wilderness backpacking excursion.

Arizona backpacking venues are famous for the unique backpacking experience they boast, easy to adapt to, as well as challenging enough for most.

The Grand Canyon National Park and the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument are two of the most popular Arizona Backpacking venues.

The Grand Canyon National Park

Being one of the most frequented Arizona backpacking options, the Grand Canyon National Park boasts more than just giant chasms, carved out on the Colorado Plateau, which is in it self already a view worth seeing. The Colorado River could also be found in the park, as well as pleasant grounds, making the park ideal for Arizona backpacking trips.

A number of backpacking tours host their events in the Grand Canyon National Park, given the ideal state of the area for backpacking excursions. Relatively safe for everyone, backpackers eyes are opened to the teeming life in the dessert, taking up their backpacking adventure in the Grand Canyon National Park.

The popular feature which defines the Grand Canyon National Park as an Arizona Backpacking venue would be its summer temperatures, which are relatively pleasant. Rains come its way during July, August and September, with the rest of the Spring and Fall ideal for backpacking trips.

As an Arizona backpacking venue, the Grand Canyon National Park ideally fits the bill defining ideal backpacking venues. Wondrous sights and relatively easy trials, the Grand Canyon National Park welcomes professional as well as amateur backpackers.

Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument

The landscape of the Sonoran Desert is highlighted in this Arizona backpacking venue, ideal for backpackers who love to experience natures wonders under a clear desert sky, a distinct beauty in the Southwest.

Be backpackers be looking forward to days away, hiking into the wilderness, or simply an overnight adventure with the desert, Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument has something for one and all.

With warm days reaching up to 60 degrees F, and chilly nights up to 40 degrees F, most vacationers come to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument between December and March. Summertime is known for the afternoon siestas backpackers experience during their visit to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument.

All in all, the two above mentioned parks stands steady as among the best Arizona backpacking venues, open to one and all.

With its now ever growing popularity, ultralight backpacking gear types are readily available for backpackers, professionals or not. Ultralight backpacking gear types are basically specialized backpacking gear, ensuring three essential elements: lightweight equipment which are both functional and durable as well.

With an ultralight backpacking system loaded on a backpackers back, the whole backpacking trip would be easier, leaving backpackers to focus on having more fun. Movement is easy, and all that a backpacker carries would have true functions which are of value outdoors.

Most ultralight backpacking would weigh less than 16 lbs, with most traditional packs weighing 35 50 lbs, traditionally with a weekends worth of water and food. An ultralight backpack is notorious for being so light, most backpackers forget that they carry with them a tent, highlighting the whole simple walk in the woods concept of backpacking. Bringing a heavier pack, wouldn’t yield to such results, leaving one in an ordeal to simply get the whole backpacking adventure over and done with.

Here are some of the most common gears that make up an ultralight backpacking system.

Ultralight Backpacks

Made from light durable fabrics, ultralight backpacks are simply ultralight backpacks, weighing lesser than traditional outdoor packs, but still boasting the same features. Most ultralight backpacks could carry up to 200 lbs of weight, ideal for week-long backpacking trips.

With most backpacking excursions programmed for weekends, ultralight backpacks are ideal packs, as they serve a multifunctional purpose, useful for short or long backpacking adventures.

LED Flashlights

Brighter and physically lighter than traditional flashlights, LED flashlights are among the most common items one could find in an ultralight backpacking system. Certain LED flashlight types are known to be small enough to be fitted into a jungle survival knife, or a cigarette lighter, still functioning perfectly as flashlights, requiring only a little power source.

Garbage Bags

Garbage bags could be commonly found in an ultralight backpacking system, because of the various uses they could be employed for. Garbage bags could be used as a stuff sack, for separating wet or dry clothing, as a rain poncho, a tarp, a backpack cover, an ash bucket, as a bandage, a tent ground cloth, a dry bag, and, as a garbage bag.

Lightweight, durable, multifunctional, they arent surprising to see in an ultralight backpacking list of items.

With these three being the most common ultralight backpacking gear types, other ultralight backpacking gears include ultralight pots and stoves, as well as tents and sleeping bags. These three gear types are simply the most commonly found in ultralight backpacking systems.

People love to wear and to dress up because they want to feel good, they want to look good, and they want to express a part of themselves. Sometimes, there’s also a need to do so because the weather calls for it, the environment demands it, the situation requires it. Both the clothes and footwear are becoming a person’s second skin, like a chameleon, changing and blending into its surroundings, that’s how flexible a person’s dressing up is.

Events, trips, activities, etc., will always have a suitable and appropriate mode, style, and design. Obviously, you can’t wear your party clothes and shoes to your gym sessions, or you can’t wear your beach clothes and sandals to the mall, or you can’t wear your sleepwear and bedroom slippers to your outdoor activities. This scenario can be very well pictured out in backpacking activities, camping, and hiking. You simply can’t wear just anything when you go out on these trips. In cases like these, the appropriate backpacking clothes, backpacking boots, and backpacking accessories, must be well thought of. Mainly because the environment you would be entering is very unpredictable. From head to toe, you must be geared up perfectly. Simple backpacking clothes would include a shirt and a pair of trousers or jeans or shorts, depending on the weather, and a good pair of backpacking boots would be very fit for the long day hiking and climbing. But, you may substitute backpacking boots with walking shoes or sandals, if the terrain you’ll be traversing is not that rugged and treacherous. When you go on these outdoor trips or when you do backcountry activities, make sure that at least you’ve got extra comfortable outdoor clothes and include an extra pair of durable packing boots.

Your backpacking clothes and backpacking boots must be lightweight and compact so that these can be accommodated in whatever small space there is in your backpack. A good extra pair of these gears will do you good, you don’t have to pack more extra pairs because when you do, you’re only burdening yourself with the extra weight. Anyways, you can just wash your backpacking clothes during the night and it will be good as new the next day, and you just have to untangle yourself with your backpacking boots and let it breathe so it would be refreshed the next morning.

Your backpacking clothes, backpacking boots, backpacking gears, and backpacking equipments cramped in the small space of your backpacking backpack will be your helpers, protectors, and guards in the unknown territory you’ll be entering.

Ladies enjoy accessorizing themselves, be it jewelries, fashionable dangling, and other items that will enhance their face, clothes, and body. Men also do the same, with their shirts, wallets, bags, etc. Somehow it’s because of the fashion trend that they follow, or it gives off their own fashion sense. Whatever one wears, a matching piece of accessory always adds glitter, glamour, and grace to the whole ensemble.

No matter what the person wears, where the person goes, or what the person does, there will always be that particular accessory that will make a person look good and feel good. Even in backpacking, accessories still have some value. Although, the rule of thumb in backpacking is, the lesser the better, somehow some backpacking accessories may be of help as well. Backpacking accessories don’t necessarily mean to wear those big, bright, colorful, and thick accessories that will wrap one’s neck, arms, hands, ears, and body. Backpacking accessories are more of the “useful” and “practical” stuff. They may come in different shapes, models, and sizes. There’s actually no need to overdo one’s backpacking accessories, it may just be a simple add-on to the usual backpacking things and stuff brought, but in a way, it still enhances it. Some of the backpacking accessories that one can play around with are: the compass and its string, the head caps and bandanas, the sunglasses and straps, the backpacks, and more. Some other backpacking accessories that one can work on would be to use straps, laces, strings, etc., that can both be used in other stuff and can also be useful when one hikes, cooks, etc. Since utility is an important factor in backpacking, make sure also that the backpacking accessories brought during the trip are multi-functional.

When one plans on a backpacking trip and prepares the backpacking equipments and gears, one shouldn’t forget accessorizing it with some useful stuff. Simple tricks with one’s hand on those backpacking accessories can go a long way, and who knows?, It may even save your things or your life when you’re already out there in the open. Backpacking accessories are not just for fashion trends and show; these backpacking accessories are for one’s aid when the time comes.

So, the next time you think of going on a backpacking adventure, don’t forget, keep it in mind that some simple and basic things can actually be used as accessories to your things are also tools when you finally need it.

Books help a person understand, learn, and discover new things. Sometimes, it’s there to entertain, relax, and comfort a person. One thing for sure is true, books can really be heavy, and sometimes, it’s better read and left at home. Although, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the thicker, heavier, and bigger the book, the more information there is. The information depends on what the person is looking for.

Even in travels and trips and other activities, books can really be of use. However, it’s not that practical to bring or carry these books around because these will only add to the burden and weight of your bag. There are activities that need special attention, skills, abilities, know-how, lessons, trainings, instructions, etc., and a good preparation will allow you to make those activities a successful one. A particularly good example would be backpacking. It is an activity that must be carefully planned especially if the trip will take on a few days and weeks. One becomes even more scared and paranoid when he doesn’t know anything about it or the challenges of the journey itself. This is why most backpackers, novice or professionals, try to read and get as much information as possible in whatever backpacking books available in the stores or in the library. Backpacking books may be a little bulky in the pack, so no need to bring it. Just make sure that you were able to read it, grasp it, and absorb it, so that when things get awry, and you need something to help you with a certain dilemma or situation, you can at least face it steadfastly.

Backpacking books are really helpful tools in preparing for the trip. These backpacking books contain useful and practical information, although not everything may be applicable to your most recent trip, but it will become handy on your next trips. With the availability of backpacking books, you would then glimpse into what to expect in your trip, giving you a background-, sound-, and feel— check of the real trip.
Backpacking books are to be read in advance, and not while on the road or on the rest, not only will it make your backpack heavier but it will even mess up the group with all the stops and confirmations and other things.

So, before you go on your next trip, make sure you know a little about the area, its mountains or fields or valleys, etc, through reading some backpacking books. It can even make your stay in the outdoors a tiring yet a pleasurable and worthwhile one at that.

Some people love to go to the countryside to enjoy nature at its purest and simplest form. Others love to go to the beach to enjoy the sun and the waves. Many also love to go to the mountains and the wilderness to enjoy the rugged terrains and the feeling of being in touch with the environment. Most people may not be into this type of backcountry fun but for those who love it, they experience a different fulfillment and satisfaction worth remembering.

Backpacking camping may not be for everyone, as it takes so much of a person’s physical endurance and stamina. Backpacking camping is a rigorous activity that can only be met by physically healthy people, that’s why it is not for everyone. Backpacking camping combines hiking and camping, plus carrying huge backpacks with all the equipments and supplies needed for eating, sleeping, and surviving the days and nights in these rough areas, so a person must have physical strength, ability, and skill to truly enjoy and survive this trip. Backpacking camping is done and experienced by both professionals and amateurs. For those who just want to enjoy the natural scenery and spend a night or more just to experience what it is like to live in these camps, they are usually there for fun, experience, curiosity, and satisfaction. For those professional backpackers, backpacking camping for them is a mission, it is an important and integral part of their job; like the military for their training, scientific and academic researchers for their respective studies, professional guides to assist other backpackers, photographers for their specialized galleries, park-rangers and “search and rescue” officers.

When one goes on a backpacking camping trip, he has to be aware of the possible unpredictable things that may happen, that’s why he has to at least prepare and practice safety skills to ensure survival. No matter how much a person prepares for his backpacking camping, there will always be certain surprises, both positive and negative, awaiting him. Survival skills plus physical and mental endurance become handy in dealing such unexpected circumstances like the weather change, environment, route navigation, injuries, and more.

Backpacking camping is fulfilling but a challenging experience, and only good and right for those who are truly willing to do it. Backpacking camping may be too difficult for some while there are others who find real pleasure and satisfaction after a backpacking camping, no matter how rigorous and tiring it may be.

Nowadays, fashion has definitely gone on different directions, it’s randomly attacking various generations, making people crave for more and anticipate on what’s going to be new in the next couple of weeks and months. It has undergone change in almost all its aspects, from head to toe gear. Sometimes, it motivates people to be inventive, creative, and imaginative, a way for them to express themselves. But, somehow, some people find this evolving fashion too fastidious and unnecessary. But, whatever the case may be, one cannot surely live without a sense of fashion, no matter how naive or simple or sensational a person can be.

However, there are also cases wherein one can only dress up or dress down as much. Examples would be, when you go on camping, hiking, biking, mountaineering, climbing, backpacking, and other outdoor activities or trips. No one would expect you to carry so much backpacking clothes in your bag; no one would expect you to cramp your backpack with unnecessary accessories. When you go on this adventure, your backpacking clothes must be something useful but not necessarily fashionable, comfortable but not necessarily revealing, light-weight but not necessarily very thin, and most importantly durable. You have to carry backpacking clothes that are washable and can be wind-dried overnight. Backpacking clothes would also have to depend on where you’ll be going and spending your days and nights. If you’re embarking on a backpacking adventure in cold areas, then make sure you’re also fully-equipped in terms of your backpacking clothes, warm jacket and heat-absorbent clothes, it doesn’t really mean that your backpacking clothes must be very thick and heavy, but you should check the material and its quality. Still maintain the lightweight packing and clothing by getting the best and fine quality materials, although it will be much more expensive than the ordinary ones.

Also, you must be willing and ready to repeatedly wear the same clothes for a few days or a long period of time; you have to be minimalist in this case. Anyways, you can always wash your clothes at the end of the day and have a fresh dried piece the next morning. Just don’t mind the fashion when you’re on a backpacking trip. When taking this kind of journey, bring only the backpacking clothes that will keep you warm during the night, keep you protected from insects and harsh weather, and keep you comfortable while touring and walking.
